#queer history #gay gay gay gay gaySo, going by the idea of “every truly great story has a random Texan” (see: Dracula, His Dark Materials), I asked my Tolkien encyclopedia wife what race/culture in The Lord of the Rings is the Texan equivalent. They got real mad when I suggested the Rohirrim (because horse culture, I didn’t actually think that was the answer but I wanted to provoke my wife), and… I’m gonna step aside so my wife can rant about who in LotR is the actual Random Texan.
omg, this is the first time i’ve heard older furries refering to themselves as “gray muzzles” 🥺 that’s so cute!!
Me: Mags, what’s the biggest shipwreck you can think of?
Mags: Ummm… Destiel?
I think one of the best things about Fantasy High is that it really solves the “why are you all a bunch of murder hobos” problem, with no real need for explanation. Because when you put a friend group of high schoolers in a situation, with magic and bladed weapons, what on earth ELSE are they going to do?
Fucking exhausting listening to a podcast by cis gays who are openly and outspokenly supportive of trans people, who speak intelligently about queer people in media including (binary) trans issues and representation… but when speaking about a character that is not explicitly nonbinary but is so clearly meant to represent nonbinary identity and express feelings about being nb, they repeatedly say things like “trans or genderqueer”, “trans or nonbinary”, or repeatedly refer to the character as “they” when she only ever uses she/her pronouns and never expresses any discomfort with that.
I am absolutely positive these people do not mean anything hurtful for it, that at worst it’s entirely benign ignorance, and that’s why I’m not naming names because this isn’t a callout post. It’s just… frustrating. A little hurtful. A little alienating. I know there are much bigger battles going on right now, I’m not saying it’s a big deal even, it’s just… tiring.
Btw, I’ve never once managed to get further into Dracula Daily than a few dispatches, bc adhd and so on.
I started listening to a podcast that is basically doing Dracula Daily, this very year. I got a good chunk further into the story with the podcast than I ever had reading it.
The sound design and voice acting is incredible. It’s so engaging that I was listening to it to fall asleep, but found myself clinging to awareness just to keep listening for a bit longer.
I just need you all to understand the relationship of me, who was a CS Lewis girl as a young teenager, and my wife, who was such a Tolkien nerd that they wrote their diaries in Tengwar.
…it’s exactly what you’d think. CS Lewis putting a lamppost in his fantasy series to aggravate Tolkien? That’s just what we do. Like, the exact same things don’t bother my wife, but the dynamic is entirely the same. I guess if anyone is out there RPF shipping Tolkien and Lewis, pls know that it has essentially happened irl, and we’ve been together for a decade and a half.
This is heresy, properly cooked Brussels sprouts are proof that God exists and he loves us.
PSA: tomatoes are not spicy. Tomatoes and tomato products should not be spicy. Pizza sauce isn’t inherently spicy. Tomato-based pasta sauce is not spicy. Ketchup is NOT spicy.
If tomatoes are spicy, you have an allergy to tomatoes.
This announcement brought to you by my almost 29-year-old husband learning for the first time in his 2.8 decades of putting food products into his mouth that spaghetti and saucy pizza aren’t spicy foods
AHEM.
W…. REALLY? omg. I love ketchup but it has always been Really spicy for me, when I usually do fine with much spicier foods (or u know, foods that are Supposed to be spicy)
Uhhhhh. Kay. Thing to check out then I guess
